Abstract: Arsenian is an expert in U.S.-Russia relations.Born in Yerevan, and raised in Moscow, Arsenian has a unique perspective on the region. She analyzes the U.S.-Russian relationship from the Soviet period through the present, and the perceptions and misconceptions each has about the other.

She discusses her perceptions of the current realities of international relations; her views on the fields of Sovietology and Russian Studies; her view on the relationship between academia and the policy world and the importance of area studies; her personal history, including her time at the Harriman Institute; and her role as a grant-maker in the area of U.S.-Russian relations.
